Elon Musk’s Tesla just crushed the record for fastest electric vehicle in the world

Electric car manufacturer Tesla recently set a new record for the fastest production electric vehicle after speeding around Germany’s famous Nürburgring Nordschleife race track. 

Tesla’s Model S Plaid zoomed through the 13-mile course, considered to be one of the most demanding race tracks in the world, in a record 7 minutes and 35 seconds last week, reaching a top speed of 173 miles per hour. 

The $130,000 Model S Plaid surpassed the previous record for production EVs set by Porsche’s Taycan Turbo in 2019. 

Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted a photo of a receipt from the Nürburgring showing the Model S Plaid time broke the track record. 

He emphasized the vehicle was “completely unmodified, directly from factory.” 

A video posted by Tesla shows Swedish pro driver Andreas Simonsen at the wheel as the car zipped around the track during its record-breaking run. 

Musk in June unveiled the Model S Plaid and billed it as “the quickest production vehicle ever made.” 

He claimed the vehicle is capable of going from zero to 60 mph in less than 2 seconds and has a top speed of up to 200 mph.
